Process Engineer

SUMMARY

SIFCO Industries, Inc., a premier publicly-held supplier to the aerospace industry located in Cleveland, OH, seeks a qualified Process Engineer.  Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Process Engineering role is responsible for process work instructions, techniques, safety improvements, productivity enhancements, and quality adherence.  The role is instrumental with the New Product Introduction (NPI) process and process capability improvements.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to identify opportunities and improve department performance regarding Safety, Quality, and Productivity

  • Improve and maintain process control systems by working with all departments

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions as required to drive variability reduction with customers and suppliers

  • Create, maintain, and improve standard work procedures and effectively communicate / train to instructions.  Ensure instructions are readily available for use

  • Partner with Supervision to create, facilitate and maintain department training

  • Lead Continuous Improvement efforts to improve safety, labor productivity and equipment utilization while reducing costs

  • Develop and implement Capital Expenditure requests for equipment and facility improvements that enhance department performance and / or reduce cost

  • Partner with Design Engineering and Sales on NPI efforts

  • Partner with Quality and Engineering on ISO, AS and NADCAP compliance initiatives, including internal audits and external audit preparation

  • Work with purchasing and outside vendors to drive cost improvements regarding department supplies and inventory management

  • All other duties assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is expected to back up department supervisor as needed.  In addition, program management skills are essential to success.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BS/ BA (engineering discipline preferred) or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years’ manufacturing experience

  • Ability to motivate people, particularly a production workforce

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office - Excel, Word, Outlook) including ERP experience

  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and work independently as well

  • Advanced problem solving and facilitation skills

  • Proven ability to initiate change

  • Experience with automated process control

  • Demonstrable effective planning skills to achieve specific goals and develop detailed work procedures

  • Other duties as assigned

     

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations and guidelines

  • Project management experience

  • Experience working with and / or implementing improvement programs, techniques and tools such as ISO, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.

  • Exposure to and understanding of Theory of Constraints throughput and inventory management preferred

  • Experience in a ISO 9001, AS and / or NADCAP certified facility

  • Exposure to forging or steel manufacturing

  • Experience in a union environment
